Welcome to my new blog! I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and explain why I want to start this business. I am a mother of two girls, a wife to a man with no Ag background, and I have a Ph.D. in Plant and Soil Science. In my last two jobs I had been asked to take over responsibility for websites, newsletters, and Facebook pages. I learned quickly all this “free” advertising was a lot of work, but, more importantly, it doesn’t continue on its own. If you don’t update regularly, you give the impression that you have nothing to offer, or worse, may be out of business.

A Facebook page, Twitter profile, Instagram account, or LinkedIn profile for an individual seems easy,. You have a newsfeed which is always full and your friends like and share your posts. These are great tools for a business as well, but it does not just happen on its own. For example; in a personal profile it is easy to build a friend list. For a business, you have to figure out who to target and what to follow. While your friends are great on your newsfeed, they may have no interest in your business. Building an audience is a challenge, but an even bigger challenge is posting information that gets people to interact with and promote for you. That’s the real value of social media marketing.

Why am I starting this business?

I have worked with social media for several businesses and have watched as small Ag companies have tried to use social media to grow. When the time comes to focus on sales and customer support, the social media is abandoned. While it’s a powerful tool for growing a business, if not used well, Social Media can turn prospective customers away. A strong web presence can bring you and your business to the top of the search page, while an abandoned social media presence will have potential customers questioning if you are even still in business.

Sales staff is good at sales, but can often regard maintaining or even creating a social media presence as a waste of time. In small businesses it is often felt that marketing is not necessary. Why bother when they have a sales staff? The truth is a sound marketing plan and a strong social presence will help your company grow. I want to help small Ag businesses grow with sound marketing and social media presence, letting your sales staff do what they are good at; sales.

Let's refresh your marketing approach to social media.
